Dr. En Mao didn’t have a difficult time determining the greatest strength of her new employer, the Nicholls State University Department of Accounting and Information Systems. She was impressed with the helpfulness of the faculty and staff members as soon as she arrived in August 2006.

Mao believes information systems is a critical skill every student needs to be educated about.  The field also offers excellent career opportunities, especially in the midst of a shortage of individuals trained in information systems.

“The competitiveness of the United States is dependent on the next generation of IS graduates, and we have a shortage of IS students,” she says.  “Every company I talk to is having trouble finding qualified IS employees.”

Mao, associate professor of information systems, is currently researching information technology acceptance issues and technology management in China.  She says even though international research is extremely challenging, it is her favorite.

Prior to joining Nicholls, Mao was assistant professor of management information systems at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She has published in the Journal of Global Information Technology Management, DataBase, Communications of the AIS, Information & Management, International Journal of Knowledge Management,  Psychology & Marketing, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of Digital Imaging, and Issues in Information Systems.  Her research has also appeared as book chapters in Knowledge Mapping and Management,  Global Information Technology Management, and Strategic Information Systems:  Concepts, Methodologies, Tools, and Applications.   Mao has presented papers related to her research at more than 20 national and international conferences. She is an associate editor of the Journal of Information Privacy and Security and an editorial review board member of the Journal of Global Information Technology Management.

Mao developed the China study abroad program at Nicholls State University.  She led the first group of Nicholls students to China in Summer 2009 and again in Summer 2010.  For more info. about the China program, please visit http://www.nicholls.edu/business/china/.
