Instructor of Computer Information Systems
Terry Evans was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. After high school he attended Nicholls State University, where he was one of the first graduates of the Computer Science Department. From there he began working in the banking industry. He began as a system analyst and programmer and worked his way up to Vice President of Data Center and eventually to Senior Management as the Chief Information Officer. While working and raising 3 young children, he was able to further his education at NSU and Rutgers University Stonier Graduate School of Banking for his MBA and Masters of Banking, respectively. – He was ranked first during his senior year at Stonier Graduate School for modeling the economics events and their effect on a bank’s income statement.
Evans began his teaching career at Nicholls State in 1982, as an Adjunct Professor. He taught MIS Strategies, Office Information Systems and Computer concepts, Specific products and languages using COBOL, FORTRAN, and Basic, DOS, Windows, dBase, Lotus and Microsoft applications while at NSU. He is the former Vice President of the NSU Alumni and the former president of the Computer Science Alumni Club. He became a fulltime instructor in the fall of 2013.
In 2000, Evans became the Chief Information Officer at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center. While working for the hospital he earned his CPHIMS – Certified Professional in Healthcare Information Management Systems. He also earned Fellow status for the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMMS). He holds several certifications, one of which is a Six Sigma Greenbelt for Healthcare. He served on the University CMPS/CIS Advisory Board as president and a board member of the New Orleans Chapter Data Processing Managers Association. He also served as the president and chair of the Louisiana Chapter of Healthcare Information Management Systems Society. He was furthermore an active member of the College Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) and the Southern Financial Exchange.
Evans has also developed several software solutions such a Parish Sales Tax Collection system, which is currently running in 25 parishes across the state. In his spare time, Evans enjoys spending time with his family. As an active member in this community, he serves as the Secretary for the Thibodaux Chapter Kiwanis Club. (He has also help the President and Treasurer offices). He enjoys his time at church at St. Thomas Aquinas and sits on the Church’s financial counsel. Even after all of his professional endeavors, if you ask him what his greatest accomplishment is he will answer that it is coaching the Thibodaux Biddy Basketball 7-8 year old girls team to a world championship victory.
