Dr. En Mao
Assistant Professor of Computer Information Systems; The Agnes Candies Endowed Professorship
Dr. En Mao didn’t have a difficult time determining the greatest strength of her new employer, the Nicholls State University Department of Accounting and Information Systems. She was impressed with the helpfulness of the faculty and staff members as soon as she arrived in August 2006.
“Everyone was willing to help me to get settled in, which made me even more excited to be here,” Mao says.
Mao believes computer information systems is a critical skill every students needs to be educated about. The field also offers excellent career opportunities, especially in the midst of a shortage of individuals trained in information systems.
“The competitiveness of the United States is dependent on the next generation of CIS graduates, and we have a shortage of CIS students,” she says. “Every company I talk to is having trouble finding qualified CIS employees.”
Mao, assistant professor of computer information systems, is currently researching information technology acceptance issues and technology management in China. She says even though international research is extremely challenging, it is her favorite.
Prior to joining Nicholls, Mao was assistant professor of management information systems at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She has published in the Journal of Global Information Technology Management, DataBase, Communications of the AIS Information & Management, and International Journal of Knowledge Management. Her research has also appeared as book chapters in Knowledge Mapping and Management and Global Information Technology Management. Mao has presented papers related to her research at more than 20 national and international conferences. She is an associate editor of the Journal of Information Privacy and Security and an editorial review board member of the Journal of Global Information Technology Management.
During her spare time, Mao enjoys exercising, keeping up with health news, reading, cooking and talking to her 3-year-old niece who lives in Memphis.
