Larry Howell
Associate Provost
Lawrence “Larry” Howell
became the first Associate Provost in Nicholls State
University history on July 1, 2004.
A native of Paris, Illinois, Howell earned his bachelor’s degree from Nicholls State University in Computer Science with minors in mathematics and business before earning his master’s degree in Applied Mathematics from Clemson University.
Howell began his teaching career at McNeese State University before returning to Nicholls State. He was promoted to Director of Institutional Research in 1995 and assistant vice president for Academic Affairs in 2001. He was appointed interim vice president for Academic Affairs for the 2003-04 academic year. Howell holds the rank of associate professor of Computer Science.
Howell has been involved in computer consulting for private businesses, municipalities, hospitals, and several school systems. Beginning in 1981, he has served on the Assumption Parish School Board. Since 1999, Howell has been a member of the governor’s task force for technology in K-12 schools.
Howell resides in Napoleonville with his wife Tina. They are the parents of two grown children and have three grandchildren.
