Lawrence “Larry” Howell became the Interim Executive Vice President at Nicholls State University on July 1, 2010.
A native of Paris, Illinois, Howell earned his bachelor’s degree from Nicholls State University in computer science with minors in mathematics and business before earning his master’s degree in applied mathematics from Clemson University.
Howell began his teaching career at McNeese State University before returning to Nicholls. He was promoted to Director of Institutional Research in 1995 and assistant vice president for Academic Affairs in 2001. He was appointed interim vice president for Academic Affairs in 2003 and promoted to associate provost in 2004. Howell holds the rank of associate professor of Computer Science.
Howell has been involved in computer consulting for private businesses, municipalities, hospitals, and several school systems. He has served as a member of the Assumption Parish School Board since 1981 and was a member of the governor’s task force for technology in K-12 schools since 1999.
Howell resides in Napoleonville with his wife Tina. They are the parents of two grown children and have six grandchildren.
