Jimmy and Glenny Lee Buquet Endowed Professorship in the Louisiana Center for Dyslexia and Related Learning Disorders


PURPOSE: The Jimmy and Glenny Lee Buquet Endowed Professorship will assist Nicholls State University in enhancing academic excellence in the Center for Dyslexia and Related Learning Disorders and provide recognition to an outstanding faculty member in the College.

The Jimmy and Glenny Lee Buquet Endowed Professorship will make it possible to:

  • Permanently honor Jimmy and Glenny Lee Buquet’s contribution to the Louisiana Center for Dyslexia and Related Learning Disorders,
  • maintain quality faculty in the Center for Dyslexia and Related Learning Disorders, and
  • provide resources to support the mission of the Center for Dyslexia and Related Learning Disorders.

RATIONALE: The primary mission of the Center for Dyslexia and Related Learning Disorders is to identify and develop research-based procedures and programs for the identification and remediation of dyslexia and related disorders in school-aged and adult populations. The mission includes educating and preparing professional personnel through undergraduate and graduate course offerings for service in clinic, school-based or service center settings for the remediation of dyslexia and related disorders. The Louisiana Center for Dyslexia and Related Learning Disorders establishes a statewide system for the referral of potential clients for screening/identification. It also provides on-site remedial instruction for area clients in the university-based clinical setting.

One of the results of the Jimmy and Glenny Lee Buquet Endowed Professorship is to enhance the quality of the Louisiana Center for Dyslexia and Related Learning Disorders.

The Jimmy and Glenny Lee Buquet Endowed Professorship strengthens Nicholls State University’s image as a leader in the area of dyslexia and related learning disorders.

CRITERIA TO SELECT THE ENDOWED PROFESSORSHIP:

Qualifications of the person selected for the Professorship must include:

  • service to the University of Nicholls and the Louisiana Center for Dyslexia and Related Learning Disorders,
  • a role in the Louisiana Center for Dyslexia and Related Learning Disorders,
  • outstanding record in teaching, service, and research activities, and
  • dedication to research, teaching, and service.

The selection process will be established by the College of Education.

Recommendation and appointment of the selected individual will be approved by the Dean of the College of Education and ratified by the University.
