In south Louisiana, as in many regions of the country, it’s hard to locate a family without a history of heart problems — whether it’s high blood pressure, blockages or heart disease. The Nicholls cardiovascular technology concentration trains students to perform diagnostic examinations and therapeutic procedures involving the heart and/or blood vessels.Courses emphasize basic and advanced techniques in cardiac stress tests, electrocardiography (EKGs), cardiac ultrasounds and invasive monitoring (heart catheters, pacemakers, stents and balloon angioplasties). In addition to lectures, the curriculum includes laboratory experiences, conducted at the Teddy Duhé Building in Houma, and internships at off-site field locations. |
