Education: M.A. Vanderbuilt University Ph.D. University of Iowa Contact Information: Stephens joined the Nicholls Art Department in January 2009. Prior to coming to Nicholls she had spent the last two years writing her dissertation and teaching art history part-time. She has many interests in the field of art history, but focuses on American art, and especially enjoys researching artists of the American South. At Nicholls she teaches classes in American art, as well as Modern and Contemporary art. Rachel is a passionate teacher and a passionate researcher. She loves spending time in the classroom, discussing art history, but equally enjoys culling archives and engaging in independent research. Her proudest accomplishment as an art historian is her dissertation research, which is about Ralph E.W. Earl, the portraitist for Andrew Jackson. She has published articles about Grant Wood and Civil War panoramas, and is currently at work on a book-length manuscript about Ralph E.W. Earl. |
