The Nicholls State University painting curriculum offers personalized instruction and small classes with an emphasis on understanding the issues surrounding contemporary image making.
Students participate in courses that explore traditional and contemporary ways of investigating pictorial structure, content and form. Early on, students learn the techniques of color mixing and surface preparation. As their knowledge of painting methods and materials increases, students are expected to develop their own personal painting style.
In an atmosphere that is both supportive and challenging, students are asked to question their intentions, investigate and expand their ideas of painting and develop a coherent body of work that is the beginning of a dialog with the art world today.
In the last several years our undergraduates have been accepted into some of the most prestigious graduate programs in the country, including the Pratt Institute, New York University and the San Francisco Art Institute.
