FAQs
Q: Is it expensive to take Beginning Photography?
A: If you order all of your supplies at once you can save a great deal of money. As of Fall 2006, it cost just under $200 for supplies through Freestyle Photographic, EXCLUDING the purchase of a camera for the class. You need a manually adjustable SLR for the class, which will cost around $300 new.
Q: Is there a lot of outside work required for photography classes?
A: Yes. You should plan to spend four to six hours per week in the photo lab developing film and printing assignments. Of course, you also will need time outside of class to take your pictures.
Q: Is there a digital photography class?
A: YES! ART 463 — Color I and ART 464 — Color II both emphasize computer use. Students can choose to work with a traditional (film) or Digital SLR camera. Other photo classes that include a digital photography component include ART 261 — Beginning Photography, ART 362 — Intermediate Photography II and ART 370 — Alternate Formats. At the advanced level, students may opt to work digitally.
