Scissors

Directions:

Show the students pictures of mosaics. Have them tear out several pages out of magazines that have their favorite colors in them. The pages the with very little text. Advertisements work well. Have them cut the pages into strips about 1 to 2" thick. Then cut the strips into about 1x1" squares. Once the squares are cut instruct the students in drawing a large vase on the 8x10" tag board using a black marker. The next step is to glue on the pieces. Have them choose a variety of colors and remind them to keep a nice balance of color. 1 used the tag board so that there would be less curling of the paper. Once all the squares are glued on then they can cut the vase out of the tag board and glue it on construction paper. Encourage your students to pick the best color that complements their vase not just their favorite color. The construction paper can then be glued on to the 11x14" board for a nice presentation.
