PROJECT: CUT PAPER TEXTURE PAINTING

TEACHER: ELLEN
MC CORD

SCHOOL: SOUTH LOUISIANA CENTER FOR THE ARTS, HOUMA

GRADE - K- 8

This project, although simple, can be adjusted for all age groups and is enjoyed by all ages.

Materials:
Large sheets of paper, Construction paper, Scissors, Glue sticks, Markers, Paint Brushes.

Procedure:
The students will create texture on large sheets of paper using paint applied in various ways. Encourage them to put swirls dots and use sponges and sticks to create different textures and patterns. Have them use a large range of colors both warm and cool. Set these sheets aside to dry throughly. Once the large sheets have dried completely, the students can cut shapes from the texture painted page to create images on construction paper. These cut shapes will be pasted on a new sheet which will form the background of the composition. Show them pictures in some of Eric Carlo's books. ( It helps to have a few examples to get them started.) Choose a theme and let them create their own illustrated page.Let their imaginations do the work and the results will be beautiful.
