TIME: 60
minutes
MATERIALS:
none provided
ACTIVITY:
The teacher introduces the animals with a PowerPoint presentation that includes
for each animal the French term for the animal, a picture of the animal, and
an explanation/example of the sound the animal makes.
Students are divided into groups of 5-6 students. The groups are given 5 minutes
to choose an animal and create movements that depict the animal. Students must
work together so that their joined movements reflect a single animal. Each group
in turn performs their animal imitation for the class, and class members must
guess the animal being depicted.
Working in the same groups for 5 additional minutes, students are asked to
design a series of movements to recreate the story of Noah’s Arc and
the Great Flood. Each groups full performance -- including the deluge, loading
the arc,
moving through the water and landing -- should take no more than one minute.
As each group performs, the class must guess which animals were brought onto
the arc and name the animals in French.
EVALUATION/ASSESSMENT:
Assessment is based on the students’ abilities
to:
name the animals in French based on a picture, the animal noise, or classmates
movement depictions;
work creatively and cooperatively in groups; and
perform movements that reflect the components of the assignment.
