PROJECT: DISCOVERING BODY PARTS: "BONJOUR MONSIEUR"

OBJECTIVES:
The learner will:

French:
Learn the French words for body parts.
Create a movement associated with individual body parts that “hurt”

TIME: Two 45-minute class periods

MATERIALS:

  1. Body part flashcards
  2. Song: “Bonjour, Monsieur” (attached)

INTRODUCTION/PREPARATION/ANTICIPATORY SET:

The teacher asks students to name parts of the body in French. As students name the parts, those flashcards are put on the board.

ACTIVITY:

The teacher reviews vocabulary for body parts previously taught and introduces new French words for other body parts (to cover all body parts mentioned in the song).
Student listen to and repeat the French word for each body part.
Students point to the appropriate body part when the French word in read by the teacher.
Students recreate a body by assembling the body parts following instructions in French.
The teacher models the song “Bonjour, Monsieur.”
Students work in groups of four to create movements for each body part that “hurts” in the song.
Each group in turn signs their part of the song for the class, while the rest of the class does the movements as each body part is being named.
The whole class forms a double line, and sings the song while doing the movements for all of the body parts

 

EVALUATION/ASSESSMENT:

Students are assessed on their oral answers, the movements they create and their overall participation.

Ideas to extend this lesson:
Play “Simon Says” with body part.
Play “Bingo” with body parts.
Review using “Savez-vous planter les chaux,” a French song where the singers use different body parts to plant their cabbage.
