Erica Callais graduated from Nicholls in December 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication with a concentration in broadcast journalism. While in college, she was awarded the Bob Blazer Scholarship for Outstanding Ethics and Excellence in the Field of Communications.
Callais joined the Nicholls Office of Admissions in January 2004. In addition to serving as a high school recruiter, Callais organized Multicultural Day, which is held each spring to award academic scholarships to deserving minority students.
“I love interacting with students and helping them succeed at Nicholls,” Callais says. “I find great joy in graduates coming back to tell me I’ve helped them earn their degree.”
Callais was also in charge of the dual enrollment program, which allows high school students to earn college credit, and parent orientation.
“Being a parent myself helps me to focus on the needs of other parents,” Callais says. “I am able to feel compassion for parents during this learning process and appreciate their feelings during this difficult transition time.”
In February 2007, Callais became the Director of Athletic Academic Services. She monitors the progress of student athletes to ensure that they strive to their full academic and athletic potential. Callais is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the academic advising and registrations process for all student athletes.
When she’s not checking up on student athletes, Callais spends time with her family, especially her five-year-old son, Ethan.
