Welcome

In today’s school environment, more participation in athletics means greater potential for injury and a greater need for allied health professionals who specialize in preventative care of sports injuries.

The Nicholls athletic training science program provides students with the knowledge, skills, clinical experience and attitude necessary for success as entry-level athletic trainers. The four-year curriculum is divided into a pre-professional phase that familiarizes students with the sports medicine profession and a professional phase of advanced lecture and clinical courses. Students have the opportunity to get work with high school, collegiate and professional athletes.

Graduates are prepared to work in all areas of athletic training, including the care, prevention, assessment and rehabilitation of sports-related injuries. Upon completion of the athletic training curriculum, students are prepared to sit for the Board of Certification Examination to become a certified athletic trainer.

The program also provides a strong foundation in the sciences for students interested in pursuing a master’s degree in a related field of sports medicine (such as paramedics, occupational therapy, physical therapy, recreational therapy or physician’s assistant).

The athletic training education program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education.
