Athletic Training Education Program

Educating future certified athletic trainers.

Jon Hay

Jon Hay knows the difference between ankle taping and bracing first hand. He conducted extensive research with a medical doctor by taping and bracing cadaver ankles, stressing the joints and taking x-rays to how stable the joints looked.

“It’s hard to tape a cadaver ankle with surgical gloves on,” Hay says.

Practical experience is something Hay certainly isn’t lacking. Before coming to Nicholls, he was the head athletic trainer at Georgia Southwestern State University. In 2002, he was a volunteer in the sports medicine program at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

“Athletic training is a continually evolving profession,” Hay says. “I always make it a point that we can never know it all or too much. Our faculty and courses reflect that, and I want students to know that we will continually try to provide the best education and opportunities for them.”

In his spare time, Hay enjoys golfing, fishing, hiking, camping, spending time with his family and watching sports. He also has interests in astronomy and World War II research.
