Its a good point to make that when people are working with the incentive that they themselves or their family will be better off because of it, they work harder and more efficient. The Pilgrims proved this by growing a surplus of food with their parcel of land, and were able to trade their food for furs from the Indians. And before they were giving their own land, they made excuses to not work because it was given to them. That was indeed a history lesson.
