Bayousphere researchers have worked a lot with spotted and alligator gar. We are members of the International Network for Lepisosteid Research and the Alligator Gar Working Group. We have hosted special symposia on gar and other ancient fishes at the 2005 and 2007 World Aquaculture Society Annual Meetings. Based on previous research, we have developed an alligator gar age and weight estimator based on total length. However, the age and weight estimations are only estimates, and can vary.
