The Offshore Shrimp Trawler
When the potential for Louisiana's offshore shrimping was discovered in 1937, these large round-bottomed boats capable of handling heavy seas became a prominent part of the scenery. The notable shift of the cabin from the stern or middle of the boat to the bow was one of the changes in style. These boats were more commonly used from the late1930s on, and are still made of wood and steel on the Louisiana Coast. Known as the Floridiane, size ranging from 50 to 70 feet.
