MISSION

The College of Arts and Sciences provides a liberal education in diverse areas of study.  The College offers associate, bachelor's, and master's degrees while providing courses to meet the University's general education requirements.  It actively engages students in their own education; fosters intellectual inquiry; instills in students a lifelong appreciation of the arts, sciences, and humanities; and prepares them for professional employment or for advanced study in graduate and professional schools.  The faculty of Arts and Sciences share a commitment to effective teaching, service, and scholarly activity.

Minimum Requirements for the Bachelor of Science Degree or Bachelor of Arts Degree

In addition to meeting the University's general baccalaureate degree requirements which include a minimum of 45 semester hours of credit in courses numbered 300 or above. The candidate shall:

  1. Complete one of the curricula offered by the College of Arts and Sciences.

  2. Earn a grade of at least C in each required course in the candidate's major field.

In addition to the Bachelor of Science degrees listed above, the College offers pre-professional programs in dentistry, medicine, and optometry. Students seeking admission to one of these programs should obtain the professional schools' admission requirements.

HUMANITIES MINOR

The University awards a minor in the Humanities upon the successful completion of at least 18 hours above GENED requirements in the following curricula: literature, fine arts, foreign languages, GOVT 356 & 357, history, humanities, MACO 499, music (non-performance courses), philosophy, or speech (non-performance).  A maximum of 9 hours of travel-study courses in any of these curricula may be selected for the minor.  At least 9 hours of the minor must be taken in courses numbered 300 or above.  This Humanities minor is available to students in all majors.
