EMSP 101. Basic Emergency Medical Care Fundamentals. 3-3-0. Prerequisites: Completion of all required coursework and permission of instructor. Introduction to the role and scope of practice of the EMT Basic. Course content follows the national standard curriculum as outlined by the Department of Transportation. Emphasis is on basic life support, assessment, care, techniques and skills in treating the traumatized and acutely ill patient. EMSP 200. Introduction to Advanced Emergency Medical Services. 3-3-0. Prerequisites: Completion of a National Registered EMT Basic Examination and permission of director. (Students may be provisionally admitted pending board examination results.) Historical review of the EMS profession, education standards and levels of services provided. EMSP 204. Cardiac Emergencies. 4-3-3. Co-requisites: EMSP 202, 206, 211. Lecture and laboratory course covering the pathophysiology, assessment, and current treatment modalities for cardiac patients. EMSP 220. Medical Emergencies. 4-3-3. Prerequisite: EMSP 211. Co-requisites: EMSP 222, 224, 229.
