COMD 330. Orientation to Clinical Practice. 3-3-0. Prerequisites: ENGL 102, credit or registration in Math 102 or 110, and C or better in COMD 278, 279, 281, 327. For COMD  majors only. Orientation to clinical practice and observations at approved clinical sites. Completion of 25 observation hours of therapy and diagnostic assessment in the areas of speech, language, voice, fluency, and hearing are required. (51.0299)

COMD 340. Practicum in Speech and Language I. 3-2-5. Prerequisite: C or better in COMD 330. Supervised practicum at approved clinical sites. Clinical focus is on assessment, planning and implementation of treatment procedures of articulation and language disorders. (51.0299)

COMD 380. Anatomy of the Speech and Hearing Mechanism. 3-3-0. Prerequisite: COMD 278. For COMD majors only.  The anatomy and physiology of the speech mechanism, and the anatomy of the ear and neural pathway of hearing. Fa only. (51.0202)

COMD 384. Articulation and Phonological Disorders. 3-3-0. Prerequisites: COMD 278, 327. Credit or registration in COMD 380. The causes, development, assessment and management techniques for articulation and phonological  disorders. Fa only. (51.0203)

COMD 386. Assessment and Management of Fluency Disorders. 3-3-0. Prerequisite: COMD 281; credit or registration in COMD 384 & 390. COMD 395. Diagnostic Methods in Speech – Language Pathology. 3-3-0. Prerequisite: COMD 278. Principles of diagnosis, rationale, validity, and reliability of diagnostic procedures appropriate to the major parameters of speech language pathology. Sp only. (51.0203)

COMD 397. Voice Disorders. 3-3-0. Prerequisites: COMD 278, 380. Voice disorders associated primarily with vocal nodules, contact ulcer and hoarseness due to extreme vocal abuse; characteristics of voice deviation, causes, evaluating techniques and management procedures for common voice problems and speech disorders such as cleft palate, cerebral palsy and laryngectomy. COMD 400. Aural Rehabilitation. 3-3-0. Prerequisite: COMD 390. Philosophy and techniques of rehabilitating hearing impaired individuals. Emphasis placed on auditory development and training and application of speech reading techniques. Sp only. (51.0204)

COMD 410. Audiometric Testing. 3-3-0. Prerequisite: COMD 390. Principles and techniques of speech audiometry, special audiometric testing, impedance measurements and masking, and interpretation of test results. (51.0204)

COMD 415. Clinical Practice in Audiology. 1-0-3. Prerequisite: Credit or registration in COMD  410. Observation and supervised practicum in audiometric testing, administration of testing procedures, interpretation of test results, diagnoses, and recommendations. (51.0299)

COMD 430. Practicum in Speech and Language II. 4-0-8. Prerequisite: B or better in COMD 340. Supervised practicum at approved clinical sites. Clinical focus is on assessment, planning and implementation of treatment procedures of articulation, language, voice and fluency disorders. (51.0299)

COMD 436. Procedures of Instruction in Speech, Language, and Hearing Management. 3-3-0. Prerequisites: COMD 330 and permission of department head. Consideration of laws, regulations, scheduling, grouping, and methods of instruction. Independent field observations encouraged. Sp only. (51.0299)

COMD 440. Practicum in Speech and Language III. 3-1-10. Prerequisite: B or better in COMD 430. Supervised practicum at approved clinical sites. Clinical focus is on completing informal diagnostic assessment in the areas of articulation, language, voice, and fluency. B or better is required for graduation. (51.0299)
