Communicative Disorders Program

The university awards the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Communicative Disorders to the student upon successful completion of the curriculum listed below. This program of study includes both academic and clinical education experiences at a variety of clinical education sites. To be considered for placement in the first clinical education experience course (COMD 330), the student must 1) be a communicative disorders major; 2) have achieved an overall grade point average of 2.3 (4.0 scale); 3) have successfully completed all prerequisite courses (ENGL 102, COMD 278 and 279) with a grade of “C” or better; 4) have credit or registration in MATH 102, 110, or 214, COMD 281 and 327, and 5) have completed the program’s specified clinical health requirements. Meeting these requirements does not guarantee immediate placement in COMD 330. Due to limitations placed on faculty and clinical facilities, a quota has been placed on the number of students admitted each semester (fall and spring).

In addition to meeting the University requirements for graduation, the communicative disorders major must complete COMD 340, 430, and 440 with a grade of “B” or better, and all other communicative disorders courses listed with a grade of “C” or higher.  Upon completion of the program of study, the student is eligible to apply for  a Provisional Speech-Language Pathology Assistant License in Louisiana  and formal graduate study. A master’s degree is required for anyone seeking certification.
