GUID 505. Analysis of the Individual. 3-3-0. Prerequisite: GUID 500 or permission of instructor. Techniques and materials for the study of the individual student; interpretation and application of inventory data in counseling. Su and Fa only. (13.1101)

GUID 509. Independent Research in School Counseling. 3-0-6. Prerequisites: GUID 500 and permission of the department head and instructor. Directed, intensive individual reading, study, and research in areas of need and interest culminating in scholarly paper. Areas of study must be approved prior to enrollment. May be repeated once for credit if content differs. (13.1101)

GUID 510. Theory and Procedures in Group Counseling. 3-3-0. Prerequisite: GUID 500 or permission of instructor. Theories, research and techniques in group counseling; the understanding of group dynamics and the utilization of group counseling skills in a variety of settings. Credit toward graduation may not be earned in both this course and in PSYC 510. Su and Fa only. (13.1101)

GUID 511. Theories of Counseling and Psychotherapy. 3-3-0. Prerequisite: GUID 500 or permission of instructor. In depth study of theories, methods and techniques of counseling and psychotherapy. Credit toward graduation may not be earned in both this course and PSYC 511. Su and Sp only. (13.1101)

GUID 522. Career and Lifestyle Development. 3-3-0. Prerequisite: Full admission to either the MCED or MAPC program, and GUID 500 or PSYC 549, or permission of instructor. Theories of career and lifestyle development; approaches to career awareness, exploration and choices; career appraisal and information sources. (13.1101)

GUID 523. School Counseling Practicum I. 3-0-6. Prerequisites: PSYC 500, GUID 500 and GUID 511, student liability insurance, and permission of instructor. Supervised counseling in school and in counseling laboratory setting. Enrollment restricted to school counseling majors. S or U assigned upon completion of the course. (13.1101)

GUID 524. School Counseling Practicum II. 3-0-6. Prerequisites: GUID 523, student liability insurance, and permission of instructor. Supervised counseling in school and in counseling laboratory setting. Enrollment restricted to school counseling majors. S or U assigned upon completion of the course. (13.1101)

GUID 530.   Counseling Strategies with Children and Adolescents. 3-3-0. Prerequisite: Full admission to the either the MCED or MAPC program and, GUID 500 or   PSYC 549, or permission of instructor. Counseling strategies with children and adolescents in PK-12 schools or community settings. Focus is on counseling theories, basic counseling skills, and individual and system interventions appropriate for children and adolescents. (13.1101)

GUID 534.   School Counseling Internship I.   3-1-20. Prerequisites: Completion of Practicum I and permission of Program Director. Supervised field experience in an approved school setting for a total of 300 clock hours. S or U assigned upon completion of course. (13.1101)

GUID 535.   School Counseling Internship II.   3-1-20. Prerequisites: Permission of Program Director. Supervised field experience in an approved school setting for a total of 300 clock hours. In special circumstances, a student may complete all internship hours in one semester. S or U assigned upon completion of the course. (13.1101)

GUID 595. Master’s Comprehensive Examination. 0-0-5. Prerequisite: Approval of major professor and program committee chair. S or U assigned upon completion of examination. (13.1101)
