General Information

  •         All participants must be currently enrolled or have applied to the University. Those currently enrolled at NSU must attach a copy of their spring schedule as well as degree audit showing overall cumulative GPA. Those with admissions pending must attach a copy of their admissions application and any paperwork they have received from the admissions office. Also an audit of grades to show GPA will be high enough to be accepted to NSU. You must currently be an incoming freshman or a current college student to tryout.

  •        For an application to NSU, please log onto www.nicholls.edu and fill out an on-line application. It is highly recommended your application be submitted as soon as possible. It is a lengthy process and you will not be allowed to participate without this information.
  •        IMPORTANT! Spirit Squad tryout application forms must be received by Friday, April 26, 2013.
  •         If you are under 18, your cheerleading tryout application form must be signed by a parent or guardian in order to participate.
  •        Applicants must provide complete insurance information to participate in the clinics and tryouts.   Please attach a copy of the front and back of your insurance card.
  •        All portions of tryouts are closed to the public.  Only applicants, coaching staff, and NSU qualified judges will be allowed inside.
  •         Tryout attire should be biker shorts and a solid black or white form fitting shirt. For clinic sessions t-shirts and shorts are appropriate. .  Absolutely no jewelry or body piercings will be allowed.   Tattoos must not be visible.  You will be judged on appearance so consider clothing that is appropriate and appealing, as well as, grooming that is professional.
  •        Evaluators will consist of the coaching staff, spirit director, and athletic department administrators. The purpose of the tryout is to choose the best all-around representatives for NSU. While talent is extremely important, it is also important that applicants be well-rounded individuals that will represent the University in a positive manner.
  •        Generally 12-18 total males and females are chosen to make up the squad. The squad will cheer for home and away football games as well as Men’s and Women’s Basketball and, if the talent and funds are there, will be our competitive team.  
  •        $100-$500 Scholarships are awarded to each member. Out of state fees are not waived.
