Tryout Info, Dates, and Tentative Schedule

 

Friday, May 8th, 2009
5 – 8 p.m. Learn Material/Open Practice

Saturday, May 9th, 2009
8 a.m. – Noon: First Cut-Tumbling/Material
1- 4 p.m.: Basic Stunts/Interviews

Sunday, May 10th, 2009
10 a.m. - 2 p.m.: Advance Stunts/Tumbling/Material/First Team Meeting

        ·      All tryout material will be taught at the clinic on Friday night.

·    Saturday morning clinic will consist of material review. A cut will be made at the end of the clinic based on demonstration of cheer material and tumbling skills (standing tuck, back handspring tuck, running series) and a toss chair.

·    Saturday afternoon clinic will consist of partner stunts. A cut will be made at the end of the clinic based on each applicant’s ability to perform a toss hands to heel stretch with a pop or full twist cradle. In addition, an interview will take place and play a large role in this cut. The coaching staff will be responsible for pairing up stunt partners for this portion of the evaluation

·    On Sunday, applicants will be asked to perform the following:
1. Cheer material learned at the clinics (sideline, fight song)
2. Standing tumbling in fight song
*back handspring or tuck
*back handspring back tuck
3. Running tumbling pass
4. Coed partner stunts (toss chair in fight song)
*toss stunts, walk-in stunts. 

·    Final selection will be based on overall cheerleading ability, personality and how well you work with others, appearance and interview.

 Red Squad Definition
(Coed – primarily composed of 4 males and 4 females)
The Red Squad members primarily lead cheers at home football games, men’s home basketball games. The squad also travels to out of town football games and basketball tournaments and makes numerous appearances radio and at non-University functions as determined by the Head Coach and the Associate Athletic Director.

 White Squad Definition
(All Girl – primarily composed 8-12 females)
The White Squad members primarily lead cheers at home football games, women’s home basketball games, and women’s home volleyball games. The squad also rotates with the Red Squad and travels to away football games and basketball tournaments and makes numerous appearances on radio and at non-University functions as determined by the Head Coach and the Associate Athletic Director.

**If anyone is interested in trying out for more than one squad, you are more than welcome to do so, but if selected, the coach/ advisor will determine where you will fit best on the squad**
