Nicholls Chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association

The National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association is a pre-professional membership association for students interested in the study of communication sciences and disorders. National membership is available to undergraduate, graduate or doctoral students enrolled full- or part-time in communication sciences programs or related majors.

The Nicholls Chapter of NSSLHA

  • Encourages professional interest in the fields of speech-language pathology,
  • Allows students a venue for members to assume leadership roles,
  • Helps in national, community and university projects through service and monetary contributions and
  • Helps to provide for the needs of the Jo Carol Nolen Speech, Language and Hearing Center

Who can join the Nicholls Chapter of NSSLHA?
Any Nicholls student interested in the study of communication sciences and disorders can join.

What activities does the Nicholls Chapter of the NSSLHA participate in or sponsor?
Nicholls NSSLHA holds a social gathering at the beginning and end of each semester. New members can meet faculty and upperclassmen. Each semester Nicholls NSSLHA invites a guest speaker to provide members with a hands-on look at the field of speech pathology and audiology or related fields. The speaker may be, for example, a local physician, private practitioner or other community professional. The group also participates in university and area service projects. Each semester Nicholls NSSLHA hosts a party for the clients and families of the Jo Carol Nolen Speech, Language and Hearing Center.

Are there organization meetings that I can attend?
Yes, the group usually meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month in 214 Talbot Hall. Drop in!

Are there membership dues?
Members are asked to contribute $15 for each semester that they are members. The dues are primarily used to fund contributions to worthy causes, such as “Operation Smile,” funding for guide dogs for the hearing impaired, funding items for residents of nursing homes in the area and items for the Jo Carol Nolen Speech, Language and Hearing Center.

How do I become a member of the Nicholls Chapter of NSSLHA?
Contact one of the NSSLHA officers through the communicative disorders program office (985.448.4585). Let them know that you are interested in joining and they will be happy to assist you.
