A Clinical Look at CHF: Diagnosis, Treatment, & Nursing Care

Time:  8 a.m.-8:30 a.m. registration.  8:30  a.m. – 3:30 presentation
Credit: 5.5 contact hours

Speaker: Karen Ellis RN, BSN is the Administrative Supervisor at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans.  She has worked in the coronary unit for 14 years.  She is the author of the textbook EKG Plain and Simple.

The goal of this educational activity is to provide the audience with a clinical picture of the client with CHF.  Upon completion of the activity, the learner will be able to explain advances in medication therapy used in the treatment of CHF; identify the NYHA classifications of CHF; identify how percutaneous coronary intervention is effective in treating CHF;  assess the role of CABG in treatment of CHF; identify what patients might be appropriate for a heart transplant; identify how pacemakers can treat the heart rhythm disturbances common in CHF; and recognize indications for IABP.  The target audience is RN’s who work in the hospital setting.
