Speakers; Amanda Eymard RN, DNS, CNE is an Associate Professor of Nursing at Nicholls State University and is currently the course coordinator of Mental Health Nursing. She has over 20 years of nursing experience and has extensive experience in geriatrics, including long term care facilities and geriatric psychiatric facilities.
Darrel Prestenback RN, BSN, MSN, AANP has 8 years of acute care psychiatric experience and is currently employed at LJ Chabert Medical Center in Houma, Louisiana.
The goal of this activity is to provide an update of the challenges associated with the psychiatric geriatric patient. The learner will identify challenges associated with the geriatric client and incorporate best practice measures to improve nursing care; review issues relate to elder abuse; recognize symptoms of poly pharmacy; distinguish between depression and delirium and identify proper treatment modalities; discuss proper use of restraints; analyze psychiatric conditions and how they present differently in elderly population. The target audience is RN’s
