Balancing the Effects of Chronic and Progressive Illness

Speakers:
Mary Eschete MD received her MD from Louisiana State University School of Medicine, Shreveport in 1974 with a Fellow in Infectious Diseases from Louisiana State University Medical Center, Shreveport, Louisiana 1975-1977. Dr. Eschete has been part time staff in internal medicine at South Louisiana Medical Center in Houma, La. She is also in Private Practice in Terrebonne Parish. From 1977-1979 she served on the Infection Control Committee for the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Schreveport, La. Currently she is the Infection Control Committee Chairman for South Louisiana Medical Center. She has numerous publications relating to infectious disease processes in various journals. Her research interest is focused on clinical microbiology, virus-neutrophil interaction and infection control.
Amanda Eymard MSN, RN is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Nicholls State University. She currently teaches Mental Health Nursing and is Course Coordinator of the Drug Abuse course. She has over 20 years of clinical geriatric nursing experience. She received a BSN from Nicholls State University and MSN from Loyola University of New Orleans. She is currently enrolled in the doctoral program at LSUHSC of New Orleans. She has written several grants specific to the elderly population.
Tanya Schreiber RN, MSN, APRN-BC is an Assistant Professor at Nicholls State University College of Nursing and Allied Health. She currently teaches Community Health Nursing and End of Life Care. She is Board Certified Clinical Nurse Specialis in Community Health Nursing, Board Certified Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Palliative Care. She has 20+ years palliative care experience and is a certified End of Life Care Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) Certified Trainer. Mrs. Schreiber is also a Palliative Care Nurse Consultant.
Gene Bergeron RN, MSN, CFNP, CNS is a Nurse Practitioner at Cardiovascular Institute of the South. His nursing experience has been in ER, ICU, and Hospice and Home CHF therapies.
Marcy Spangle has a Masters Degree in Social Work from Tulane University. Currently she is employed at Fresenius Medical Care Dialysis of Thibodaux as a Dialysis Social Worker. She also is employed at Hospice of South Louisiana.
DESCRIPTION: This program addresses the Psychosocial Typology of Illness, addressing the psychological, social, spiritual, and existential dimensions associated with coping and living with chronic and progressive illness for both the individual and family. Also addressed are ways in which healthcare providers can help the individual and family balance the effects of chronic and progressive illness, with special focus on the chronicity of renal disease, cardiac disease, HI/AIDS, and dementia. The target audience is nurses who manage care of clients with chronic and progressive illness.
