DESCRIPTION: Diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases in children. A crucial step in providing safe diabetes management in the school setting is educating school nurses about diabetes and specific care tasks. The goal of this program is to provide updated clinical management guidelines for children with diabetes. Insulin therapy options, nutritional guidelines, management of acute complications and insulin pump therapy will be addressed. The role of the school nurse in implementing a diabetes management plan will be discussed as well. The activity is for school nurses as well as all nurses who are in a contact with diabetic children.
