Building a Hedge of Protection Around Our Children: A United Response

Speaker: Anne Troy RN, MN, FNP, LNC is a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) and has presented both locally and nationally on topics ranging from sexual assault to violence in the workplace.

 

Participants will spend a day updating their knowledge about child maltreatment as they learn new assessment skills and intervention strategies to prevent and intervene in the lives of school aged children.  Participants will familiarize themselves with evidence based violence prevention programs for primary and secondary care of children.  The participant will recognize signs of physical abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse as well as normal sexual development.  Participants will explore cultural trends that lead to risky behavior in children and teenagers.  The participants will identify resiliency building exercises and learn how to create a darkness to light lifestyle.

Target audience:  Nurses who work in a school nurse type setting or who work with pediatric and adolescent clients.
