Speakers: Elaine Lamartina RN, BSN is currently a Clinical Diabetes Consultant for Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical Corporation.  She has been providing diabetic education to patients and families since 1994.  Although she is employed at a pharmaceutical company she has agreed to present the content in an unbiased manner and without promoting a particular drug or product.

Cindy Blanchard RN, CDE is currently the Program Coordinator of the Diabetes Management Center at Terrebonne General Medical Center.  She has 18 years of experience as a diabetic educator.                                                                                       

Catherine Guilbeau, RN, CDE, CPT has been a diabetic educator since 2003.  She has been employed as a clinical manager at the Medical Team diabetic education program.

Holly Dufrene, RD, LDN, CDE is currently at Terrebonne General Medical Center in the Diabetic Management Program.  She has been a dietician for the past 9 years and has been a CDE since 2008.

 

This educational activity is designed to explore the pathophysiology of Type I and Type II Diabetes as well as the current up to date management of Type I Diabetes.  The participant will be able to appreciate multiple daily injection (MDI) and continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) as a must for management of Type I Diabetes.  How the different types of insulins today are utilized for management of Type I Diabetes as well as continuous insulin infusion and how it is implemented will be discussed.  A registered dietician will discuss the different components of diabetes meal planning.

Target audience: RN’s who care for diabetic clients.
