Hatha Yoga is the most popular yoga in America today. There is no religion base. This form of exercise uses posture and breathing techniques to link the mind and body. Each movement uses the total body and relieves anxiety and stress. This is a co-ed class, and couples are welcome. Mats provided.

Time: 7 – 8 p.m.
Place: Shaver Dance Studio (2nd floor)
Instructor: Lona Bernard, Yoga and Zumba Instructor Certified

Weight Training and Cardiovascular Activities for Women

As Part of Developing Physical Fitness and Losing or Maintaining Weight

Designed for women of all ages, this safe and self-enhancing weight lifting program can help you increase your strength and balance, reduce body fat and weight, and develop a more attractive appearance. This program powerfully supports cardiovascular work (such as walking, jogging, running, or swimming) and prevents injury. The achievable goals each student can have include developing or improving health-related physical fitness. Such fitness includes the following: cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, muscular strength, muscular endurance and acceptable body composition (the ratio of fat to total body weight).

Whether you have years of experience in working with weights or none at all you will find this class useful and challenging. Each student has her own individual schedule determined by her strength and stamina, and decided with help of instructor’s advice if needed. The instructor emphasizes ways of building muscular strength and endurance, body parts affected and choosing the right amounts of weight and repetitions at each station. You are assured of progress because weight, sets, or repetitions will be added at each class meeting using a reliable, well-tested method. When you come to class you increase each day’s total work and build on it the next day.

Injuries are prevented by using a warm-up period and by stretching at the beginning of each class and a cool down and stretch period at the end, to improve flexibility. If you attend regularly you will experience improved stamina, energy, and balance as well as mood elevation. In this class camaraderie is developed by maximal support and minimal competitiveness. Many benefits of physical activity have been well documented. For instance, recent research confirms that increased circulation and other aspects of active exercise develop and improve brain fitness.

 

Dates: Session I: May 15, 20, 22, 29; June 3, 5, 10, 12, 17, 19, 24, 26; July 1, 3.

Fourteen Classes: $70.00

Session II: July 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24, 29, 31. August 5, 7, 12, 14.  Twelve Classes: $60.00

NOTE: Section A: 4:30 to 5:30 PM; Section B: 5:00 to 6:00 PM

Zumba is a Latin inspired, dance-fitness class that incorporates Latin and International music and dance movements, which create a dynamic, exciting and effective fitness system. The class format combines fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body in an aerobic/fitness fashion to achieve a unique blended balance of cardio and muscle-toning benefits. Zumba merges fun, easy-to-follow dance steps with hot Latin beats to help you shed pounds and inches fast, burning 600 to 1,000 calories per hour! Zumba is designed for everyone. Participants of any level or background can start right away! Come and dance away your worries with this workout that’s great for both the body and the mind!
