Nicholls State University is excited to announce that we will have 2024 summer camps!  Please continue to check our website for updates on new specialized camps. Registration is open!

Become a COLONEL CAMPER! If you are a parent looking for all-day summer care for your K-8th grader (camper must be 5 years old before the start of camp), there are options for you. Fun-filled days will keep your camper content, and parents can rest easy that their kids are in great hands! Space is limited, so register early!

COLONEL CAMPER

A full-day program with academics in the morning, lunch and fun recreation activities in the afternoon.   8 weeks for academics will be offered along with a 9 week option.  

Dates: 8 week option will begin May 28 – July 19, 2024 OR  9 week option May 28 to July 26, 2024

Please register your camper into the grade level they will be entering in fall 2024.

 Lunch will be provided by  Galliano dining hall employees along with a daily snack. One simple registration is all that’s required.  Payment in full is required by Friday, May 10, 2024 along with the camper medical form.

Registration in this program also includes one camp t-shirt, daily lunch, daily snacks and special events.   Discount for siblings is offered.

9 Weeks Colonel Camper Program OR Colonel Camper Extreme

Dates: May 28 to July 26, 2024 
(Academics will be offered for the first 8 weeks for those enrolled in Colonel Camper and the 9th week will be filled with fun sports & activities)

CAMP CULINARY

For your future chef!  Camp Culinary!

SESSION 1 – BACK TO BASICS:  Explore cooking techniques for the beginning junior chef.  Campers will learn how to properly sear, grill, sauté and roast.  Perfect for the camper that wants to learn to cook but does not know where to start. Campers will learn basic cooking techniques and will prepare a wide range of beginner recipes.  Junior chefs will work together with other campers in a fund, hands-on environment lead by our own institute’s Chef Amelie Zeringue and Chef Tammy Rink.

Menu:  Italian Pizzas, Seared Port Tenderloin, Hamburgers, Ice Cream, Cookies and many more!

SESSION 2 – TASTE OF HOME:   Does your camper love the flavors of Cajun, Creole and Southern Food?  This camp, junior chefs learn classic dishes that are synonymous with the rich culinary heritage of Louisiana. Campers will learn how to properly prepare iconic dishes of Louisiana’s rich culinary heritage. Junior chefs will work together with other campers in a fun, hands-on environment led by our own institute’s Chef Amelie Zerinuge and Chef Tammy Rink.

Menu:  Gumbo, Jambalaya, Red Beans and Rice, Strawberry Shortcake and many more!

HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT BAND CAMP

Join Dr. Jason Ladd and Dr. Ben Robichaux for a week-long high school concert band camp culminating in a concert at the end of the week.  Band students will be working on the following:

** Fundamentals of good sound
** Listening skills
** Exciting pieces of music for the band and how to perform them  

Enrollment is open to 10th-12th graders (2024-25 school year) that currently participate in concert band at their school or take lessons on a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument. You will need to provide your own instrument unless you are a percussionist. 

Dr. Jason Ladd is the Director of Bands at Nicholls State University and has been teaching at the university for 9 years.

MUSIC COMPOSITION CAMP

Join Dr. Ben Robichaux for an intensive music composition camp including the use of interactive music technology.  This camp will include the following:

** Guidance on composing for film, live instruments and large ensembles (band, orchestra, choir)
** The use of interactive technology in the Nicholls Music Department’s Music Technology Lab

Camp days will take place from Monday-Friday, June 24-28, 2024  from 9 am to noon – 12 pm.

Campers will need to provide their own morning snacks.  

Dr. Robichaux has 12 music publications, several composition awards and numerous national and international performances of his music. He also revived the Music Composition Degree at Nicholls State University.

MAKERZ CAMP

Learn design and engineering skills while making simple 1 day projects using various machines and programs in the makerspace including 3D design and 3D printing, Vinyl Cutting, Laser Engraving and more. With the end goal being to see how these technologies can work together.

Goal: To learn both traditional and technological tools and equipment while making a variety of projects.

GREEN SCREEN VIDEO CAMP

JUNIOR COLONEL CHEER CAMP

Come yell, jump and flip with the Nicholls cheerleaders at the Nicholls Junior Colonel Cheerleader Camp. Campers will learn basic cheerleading skills, including motion technique, jumps and stunts. CHESS CAMPS

One Move Ahead Chess Scholarship | Bold.org

Come learn the art of chess with an instructor who earned the title of National Master from the United State Chess Federation in 1985 and has written two books on chess.  Mike Papa teaches at several local elementary schools and gives private lessons to people at all ages. In these camps, he will teach all beginners how to play and help other improve their games by instruction and holding tournaments.  If your camper is a chess enthusiast or new to chess, this camp is the best to further your campers skills and knowledge!

This cross country camp will assess your athletes’ ability level in distance running, teach fundamental running mechanics and skills needed to improve as a cross country and distance track & field athlete. Many of the skills that will be worked on will benefit the athletes’ performance in other sports as well. 

Camp will be led by Head Track & Field and Cross Country Stefanie Slekis; along with other staff members, current cross country student-athletes and experienced distance runners. Each camper will leave with a suggested summer training plan based on their ability level and a better understanding of how to establish process and outcome goals to improve as an athlete in any sport.  Sign up your camper now!

SOCCER DAY CAMPS


Your soccer player will learn both offensive and defensive soccer fundamental skills during these four day camps.  These camps will be lead by Nicholls Head Coach Robert Podeyn and members of the Colonel Soccer team.  Sessions will focus on the responsibilities of each position, technique and tactics.  Register your camper now!

NICHOLLS CHOIR CAMP

SESSION 1 – CHOIR CAMP — PITCH:  Come learn and enjoy the spectacular art of singing with Nicholls Choirs! Campers will have an amazing time working with students of Nicholls Choirs and with Dr. John St. Marie, an accomplished and versatile musician, conductor, and educator. Singers will learn songs Monday-Thursday of the week and will have a free concert open to the public on Friday, June 10th at 5:30 p.m.

SESSION  2 – CHOIR CAMP:
In addition to the choir camp, campers can also sign up to get individualized singing instruction from Dr. St. Marie and may be selected to sing solos and duets at the concert. Camper will start on June 3rd, and after registration closes, Dr. St. Marie will reach out to campers/campers’ parents by email to discuss a time to meet, pick out music and have an hour lesson.  Additionally, campers will stay after PITCH camp each day until 6:00 pm.

Campers will have a great time making super-fun “arts and crafts” projects, under directional step-by-step instruction and various themes, alternating with freestyle projects in a crafty Makerspace.  Each session will do different arts and crafts projects.  Register your camper for BOTH camps today!
