Undergraduate Didactic Program and Post-Graduate Internship Program

The Nicholls dietetic internship program incorporates the core professional competencies for entry-level practice of dietetics into the program curriculum and has a general dietetic emphasis. Upon completion of the internship, a verification statement is granted allowing students to take the national registration examination administered by the American Dietetic Association’s Commission on Dietetic Registration.

Students who are accepted into the dietetic internship will attend lecture class one day per week and will work in facilities to complete rotation activities the remainder of the week (32 hours). This is a full-time program, and students are encouraged not to hold part-time employment while in the internship. Interns must have access to reliable transportation to get to various sites.

  • Production/tray service
  • Purchasing
  • Catering
  • Management
  • General medicine
  • Oncology
  • Cardiology
  • Pediatric
  • Long term care
  • Diabetes
  • Cardiac rehab
  • Renal disease
  • Staff relief

The program spans consecutive three terms:

  • Fall
    • Dietetics 500 (3 hours)
    • Dietetics 590 (6 hours)
  • Intersession
    • Dietetics 591 (3 hours)
  • Spring
    • Dietetics 501 (3 hours)
    • Dietetics 592 (6 hours)
  • Total: 21 Semester Hours
