Annette Breaux
Induction Coordinator
Annette Breaux knows the secrets to successful teaching. And she’s willing to share them.
A former classroom teacher and curriculum coordinator, Breaux now serves as the teacher induction coordinator for the Nicholls College of Education. She works with teacher candidates, providing training and support in the best teaching and classroom management practices.
But that’s not all. Breaux is also an author, public speaker and consultant. She travels the country speaking to teachers and administrators about student achievement, classroom management and new teacher induction.
In April 2006, Breaux teamed up with Dr. Todd Whitaker, professor of educational leadership at Indiana State University, to publish “Seven Simple Secrets: What the Best Teachers Know and Do.” The book immediately began selling at a rate of 2,500 copies a month. The publisher calls Breaux “one of the most entertaining and informative authors and speakers in education today.”
Breaux’s other books include “101 Answers for New Teachers and Their Mentors,” “REAL Teachers, REAL Challenges, REAL Solutions” and “The Poetry of Annette Breaux: Tips and Poems for Teachers and Students.”
Breaux has also developed LA FIRST, or the Louisiana Framework for Inducting, Retaining and Supporting Teachers, an induction program for new teachers hailed as one of the best in the country. The program has been so successful in training new and retraining veteran teachers that the Louisiana Department of Education has adopted it as a statewide model.
