The Nicholls Division of Art will sponsor Art Day presentations and demonstrations on Friday, April 20. The day’s events include:
8:35 to 10:35 a.m., 210 Talbot Hall – Ceramics artist Missy McCormick, an assistant professor of art at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, will demonstrate pottery techniques on the potter’s wheel and show slides of her work.
9:40 to 10:45 a.m., 208 Talbot Hall – Graphic artist Tim Samaha will give a presentation.
10:45 to 11:40 a.m., 210 Talbot Hall — Justin Walsh, art historian and Louisiana State University instructor of Greek and Roman art and archaeology in the School of Art, will address the difficulties of protecting and preserving the heritage claimed by so many different groups in “Looting and Protecting Cultural Heritage.”
10:45 to 11:40 a.m., 209 Talbot Hall — Printmaker Ernest Milsted, an instructor at Southeastern Louisiana University and Nicholls alumnus, will present a screen printing workshop.
11:50 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., 204 Talbot Hall — Photographer Matthew Montieth, known for his photography that captures ordinary life in the transitioning Czech Republic in the 1990s, will lecture.
12:55 to 1:50 p.m., 210 Talbot Hall — Painter Denyce Celentano, an assistant professor of art at Louisiana State University, will lecture.
2 to 3 p.m., 201 Talbot Hall — Art Day keynote speaker Stephen Paul Day, an internationally recognized sculptor who works primarily in cast bronze and glass, will present “The Liquid Eye: A Serious Look at Vitreous Humor,” an examination of the visual nature of being an artist and the journey of the artist and art in general.
3 to 5 p.m., Lula Ameen Art Gallery (200 Talbot) — A reception will mark the conclusion of the Nicholls Faculty Invitational Art Exhibition.
