Ready for a night at the casino?

You won’t have to drive far or be over 21. The Nicholls Student Programming Association will host Casino Night at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, in the snack bar area of the Student Union. The event will feature casino games, such as black jack, poker and roulette. SPA will provide students with chips needed to play each game.

At the end of the evening, students will be able to redeem prizes for their winning chips. Casino Night is free for all students with seven or more hours with their Colonel Card.

The Nicholls Office of Wellness Education will begin a smoking cessation support program for students beginning at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, in the Bowie Room of the Student Union. (more…)

Nicholls will celebrate Black History Month with a variety of events designed to educate, honor and entertain.

A Black History Month opening ceremony, sponsored by the Student Government Association, Office of Student Life, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and Black History Month Committee, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7. The Get Connected campaign, which will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, and Wednesday, Jan. 23, will allow students to learn more about campus organizations and become members.

Commemorate Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday!

A video presentation will be aired in the Bollinger Memorial Student Union lobby from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Students will also have the opportunity to sign up to participate in community service projects during the Martin Luther King weekend and beyond.

The university will be closed Monday, Jan. 21, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The Nicholls Players, the university acting troupe, will present “Fun! A Night of Monologues, Music and Short Plays,” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, and Saturday, Jan. 19, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, in Talbot Theater.

This student-led production will include selections from “Saturday Night Live,” “Spamalot” and “Rent.” Admission is $5. The event is suggested for mature audiences.
