Black History Month Opening Ceremony
Nicholls will celebrate Black History Month with a variety of events designed to educate, honor and entertain.
A Black History Month opening ceremony, sponsored by the Student Government Association, Office of Student Life, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and Black History Month Committee, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7. The kickoff festivities will include speeches from university officials and SGA President Olinda Ricard.
Student Educators and Leaders will informally kick off the month on Friday, Feb. 1, with an information table on groundbreaking black inventors from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Union lobby. Information tables on black history facts and famous black Americans will also be displayed in the lobby from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7.
Events planned for the remainder of the month include a black cinema series, luncheon with the university’s first black faculty, gospel concert, unity gala and several information tables.
