Be there for the season’s first pitch!

The Colonels baseball team will open the 2008 season at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, against the University of Louisiana at Monroe. In an attempt to sell out the game, the Colonels are selling $5 tickets for a plate of shrimp jambalaya with admission to Didier Field. All proceeds will benefit Nicholls baseball.

The three-game weekend series will continue at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, and 1 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 24. (more…)

Voice your opinion!

The first forum of the spring semester will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the Cotillion Ballroom of the Student Union. The forum’s topic is “Resolved, that creationism should be taught alongside evolution in our public schools and universities.” Come out to listen to other students’ views and voice your own.

The Student Programming Association will sponsor a Mardi Gras-themed Midterm Breakfast on Monday, Feb. 27 from 9 p.m. to midnight in Galliano Hall Cafeteria. (more…)

Stay healthy!

University Health Services and the Nicholls Association of Student Nurses will host a health fair in honor of Black History Month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, in the Student Union snack bar area. The event will consist of blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol and HIV screenings and health information.

Support campus unity!

Nicholls will conclude its Black History Month celebration by honoring students, faculty and staff who have demonstrated leadership in unifying the campus and promoting diversity efforts.

The Unity Gala will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, in the Cotillion Ballroom and is free for all Nicholls students, faculty and staff. The event will include awards and refreshments as well as motivational poetry readings, speeches and songs by Nicholls staff members and student leaders. (more…)

Enjoy inspiring performances!

A gospel concert featuring student and community talent will conclude the university’s Black History Month celebration at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29, in Peltier Auditorium. Admission is $2 for those without a current Colonel Card.

Cheer on the Colonels while remembering the Great ‘98!

The Nicholls men’s basketball team will host the University of Texas at San Antonio at 5 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 16, in Stopher Gymnasium. Before the game and at halftime, the Department of Athletics will honor the 10-year anniversary of the 1998 team’s accomplishments.

The 1998 Southland Conference championship team finished 19-10 overall and 15-1 in conference play. The pre-game reception will be held in the Colonel Club hospitality area on the second level of Stopher Gymnasium. The halftime ceremony will include a speech from Great ‘98 Coach Rickey Broussard.

Find the perfect roommate and new friends!

Nicholls State University will host a roommate matching social on Wednesday, Feb. 20, in the Student Union snack bar area. Registration and refreshments will begin at 5:30 p.m. The open house and social will begin at 6 p.m. and include tours of the residence halls, question and answer sessions for parents and roommate assignment activities. The social will offer students the opportunity to network and talk to other students who are without residence hall roommates for the fall semester. (more…)

The Nicholls Student Programming Association will host Dale K, a comedian and hypnotist, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, in Talbot Auditorium. The event is free to the campus community.

Join us for tea!

In honor of Black History Month, the College of Nursing and Allied Health and its student organizations will sponsor a tea from 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Feb. 12, in the lobby of Betsy Cheramie Ayo Hall. All students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend.
