Unity Gala

Support campus unity!

Nicholls will conclude its Black History Month celebration by honoring students, faculty and staff who have demonstrated leadership in unifying the campus and promoting diversity efforts.

The Unity Gala will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, in the Cotillion Ballroom and is free for all Nicholls students, faculty and staff. The event will include awards and refreshments as well as motivational poetry readings, speeches and songs by Nicholls staff members and student leaders.

Eight students will receive the Unity Achievement Award, which honors individuals who represent diversity, achievement and educational advancement and who have made a positive impact on their peers, in their community and on campus. Honorees include Camille Blackburn, D’Lane Edward, Takerra Ellis, Kim Jackson, Jonathan Kerry, Faydra Martin, Stacy Ann Smith and Patrika Williby. Kali Boudreaux will receive the Diversity Achievement Award, which recognizes students who are active in a campus organization that promotes diversity.

Faculty and staff honorees will include Dr. Angela Alexander, director of Upward Bound and assistant professor of University Studies; Eula Brinkly, first black nursing faculty member; Dr. Ida Bush, first black faculty member; Eva Jacobs, first black education faculty member; and Katherine Rose, Sodexho employee.
