Concert Choir Performance

Learn more about the history and inspiring power of music!

The Nicholls Concert Choir concert, with the theme “On Music and Singing,” will feature choral songs along with text about music from poets, the songs’ composers, Roman Catholic liturgy, an Austrian traditional song and an African-American spiritual. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, in Talbot Theater, and features music ranging from the late Renaissance, Baroque, Romantic and Modern periods to folk, hymn concertato, musical comedy, early American, swing and spiritual arrangements.

Nicholls vocal music education alumna Tonia LeBlanc-Hampton, who is now the choir director at Thibodaux High School, will return to campus as a guest soloist. Instrumentalists will include Ashlee Hernandez, instrumental music education senior from Houma, flute; Michael Klaus, music junior from Thibodaux, double bass; and Michael Prejean, instrumental music education senior from Houma, percussion.

The event is free and open to the public.

The I AM Worth It! campaign will host a crossfit workshop at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 1, to be followed by yoga at 4 p.m. Both will be held in the Plantation Suite of Bollinger Memorial Student Union and are open to the campus community. (more…)

Hip Hop Aerobics

Get in shape!

The I AM Worth It! campaign will sponsor a hip hop aerobics class, free to the campus community, at 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 28, in the Shaver Gym Dance Studio.

I AM Worth It!, facilitated by the Office of Wellness Education, is a healthy lifestyle change program offering nutritional, fitness, behavioral, emotional and peer support for those looking to lose weight, get fit or develop healthier habits.

Meet the Author

Speak with a local author!

Houma native Jill Dill Clesi will be signing copies of her latest novel, “Secrets From a Trunk” from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 26, in the University Bookstore, located inside the Bollinger Memorial Student Union.

“Secrets From a Trunk” is a historical romance suspense novel set in the late 1800s in the southern regions of Louisiana, New York, Vermont, Illinois and France. Clesi, who now resides in Birmingham, Ala., is also the author of “Little Receivables Big Cash Flow,” a member of the Southeastern Writers Association and Romantic Writers Association.

Chamber Singers Concert

Enjoy nostalgic musical remembrances of our country and culture!

Early American, jazz, gospel and patriotic songs dominate the lineup for the Nicholls Chamber Singers concert, themed “Americana in Music.” The program, beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 27, in Talbot Theater, will also include folksong arrangements as sung by the Voices of Liberty at Walt Disney World; “Hooray for Hollywood,” a familiar tune from Academy Award ceremonies; and snippets of favorite television theme songs. The performance will conclude with an arrangement of “America the Beautiful” by John Ness Beck.

Student soloists include Houma natives Zach Dufrene, instrumental music education senior and baritone, and Michael Gros, vocal music education freshman and tenor.

The event is free and open to the public.

Percussion Ensemble Concert

The Nicholls Percussion Ensemble will perform a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 21, in Talbot Theater. The show will include performances featuring keyboards, drums and a wide range of toys and noisemakers. All are invited and encouraged to attend.
