The field needs you. The demand for new family and consumer sciences teachers is expected to be four times greater over the next 10 years than the number currently available. The Nicholls vocational family and consumer sciences education program prepares students for teaching positions in middle and senior high schools and informal educational settings, such as businesses, youth groups, extension and community programs. The curriculum combines general education courses with specialized courses in:
Students must complete one semester of student teaching. Each student teacher is assigned to a vocational family and consumer sciences teacher who meets state and university requirements, is active in professional organizations, sponsors an active Family, Career and Community Leaders of America program and enjoys working with students.
