Kirkley began her career at Raceland Junior High as a vocational home economics teacher. She has taught in the Nicholls family and consumer science department since 1981, serving as department head since 2000. Kirkley is certified as a Family and Consumer Sciences Professional and serves as a child development associate education consultant for Lafourche Parish Head Start.
