Dr. Bruce McManis, Head
Professor of Finance and Head of the Department of Finance and Economics
When thinking about a day of light snow, south Louisiana natives imagine canceled classes, melting snowmen and winter clothes worn for the first time in years. The majority of the Nicholls State University community would probably enjoy such a rarity. Not Dr. Bruce McManis.
“I grew up in Iowa where there was more snow than I cared to be around,” McManis says. “I moved south to find a warmer climate.”
McManis has taught in the south Louisiana heat since 1978, when he was hired by the Nicholls College of Business Administration. In 1991, McManis was promoted to head of the college’s Department of Finance and Economics.
During his tenure, he expanded department course offerings, mentored two department heads and presented research at conferences throughout the nation on the role of the Internet in investor relations. Out of all his accomplishments, McManis is most proud of the success of his former students.
“I enjoy hearing from them and finding out that they have gone on to find happiness in whatever direction they took in their life,” McManis says. “What I like most about my job is interacting with students and faculty. It doesn’t matter if it is professional or personal as long as it is honest.”
McManis also serves as a financial consultant for various public and private organizations. In his spare time, he gardens and maintains his horse pastures.
