Dr. Norbert Michel
Assistant Professor of Business Administration
Finance doesn’t just have to be about tax credits, interest rates, savings plans and dividends. For Dr. Norbert Michel, it’s about music.
Much of Michel’s research tackles intellectual property issues, such as the economics of digital music file sharing. He is also tracking the impact of hurricanes Katrina and Rita on musicians, which he hopes will provide a better idea of what local musicians’ careers look like.
After completing his dissertation on intellectual property, Michel earned his Ph.D. from the University of New Orleans in 2003. After teaching at UNO, Loyola University and George Mason University, Michel joined the Nicholls State University Department of Finance and Economics in 2005. So far, Michel has most enjoyed the people.
“From my colleagues to the students, I enjoy being around the people,” Michel says. “Our department is staffed with people who are passionate about their fields of study and who really care about their students’ education.”
In his spare time, Michel enjoys exercising and participating in outdoor activities.
