First-Time Freshman

Nicholls awards academic scholarships to first-time freshmen who meet certain criteria.To apply for a first-time freshman academic scholarship, you must do the following on or before January 5th of your senior year in high school:

  1. Submit your ACT scores to Nicholls
  2. Apply for admission to Nicholls

Once we have received the above information, you will be sent a letter explaining the status of your scholarship file. Your high school transcript will automatically be downloaded from the Louisiana Board of Regents Student Transcript System (STS) once you have applied. Our academic scholarships begin at an ACT score of a 24, and all scholarships require a minimum high school GPA of a 3.0.

This process is for first-time university applicants only. Transfer students should apply for scholarships once they start school.

The following is a list of the academic scholarships awarded as funding permits:

PRESIDENT’S SCHOLARSHIP
The President’s Scholarship is awarded to outstanding students with an overall high school GPA of at least 3.0 and a minimum ACT of 30 (or the ACT score which ranks in the top 3% of Nicholls’ scores from the previous year). The award is for a maximum period of four years (or until a Bachelor’s Degree is earned, whichever comes first), provided funding is available and the student maintains full-time status and a minimum 3.0 semester GPA. This scholarship is valued at $1,710 each regular semester with an approximate monetary value of $13,680 over a four-year period.

DEAN’S SCHOLARSHIP
Nicholls will award this scholarship, with a monetary value of more than $12,312 over a four-year period, to outstanding students with an overall high school GPA of at least 3.60 and a minimum ACT of 27. The award is for a maximum period of four years (or until a Bachelor’s Degree is earned, whichever comes first), provided funding is available and the student maintains full-time status and a minimum 3.0 semester GPA. This scholarship is valued at $3,078 per academic year.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP
Nicholls will award this scholarship to outstanding students with an overall high school GPA of at least 3.0 and a minimum ACT of 27. This award is for a maximum period of four years (or until a Bachelor’s Degree is earned, whichever comes first), provided funding is available and the student maintains full-time status and a minimum 3.0 semester GPA. This award is valued at $2,565 per academic year or $10,260 over a four-year period.

NICHOLLS STATE UNIVERSITY SCHOLARS SCHOLARSHIP
Nicholls will award this scholarship to outstanding students with an overall high school GPA of at least 3.60 and a minimum ACT of 24. This award is for a maximum period of four years (or until a Bachelor’s Degree is earned, whichever comes first), provided funding is available and the student maintains full-time status and a minimum 3.0 semester GPA. This award is valued at $1,710 per academic year or $6,840 over a four year period.

NICHOLLS STATE UNIVERSITY ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP
Nicholls will award this scholarship to outstanding students with an overall high school GPA of at least 3.0 and a minimum ACT of 24.  This award is for a maximum period of four years (or until a Bachelor’s Degree is earned, whichever comes first), provided funding is available and the student maintains full-time status and a minimum 3.0 semester GPA. This award is valued at $1,368 per academic year or $5,472 over a four-year period.

VALEDICTORIAN SCHOLARSHIP
Nicholls will award this scholarship to all valedictorians from accredited high schools. Valedictorians from other parishes will be considered on a case by case basis. This award is valued at $450 per semester for one year. To maintain the scholarship, the recipient must enroll as a full-time student and complete each semester as a full-time student with a minimum 3.0 semester GPA.
