10 Year Anniversary Exhibition

SInce 1999, Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON), in Chauvin, LA has offered a unique educational course that utilizes the magnificent and endangered backdrop of Louisiana estuaries to introduce students to photography. This exhibition presents a selection of photographs taken over the past ten years. Live music by MELLOWBERRY.


April 2009: Chauvin Folk Art Festival + Blessing of the Fleet Celebration

Folk Art Festival, April 19, 2009The Chauvin Folk Art Festival is a FREE event held in conjunction with the historical Blessing of the Fleet, the semi-annual boat parade along Bayou Little Caillou. This year's musical entertainment featured contemporary Cajun rock by Mellowberry, toe-tapping Swamp Pop with Treater, and the classic Cajun sounds of Lost Bayou Ramblers.

FEATURED ARTISTS: John Perrilloux, Ivy Billiot, Gregg Elliot, Chuck Broussard, Willie Lamendola, Jeff Brown, Billy Bellagner, Mark Taylor, Geraldine Roberston, Ellen McCord, Dennis Sipiorski, Doris Dupre, Janey Luster, Dot-tie, Robin Hartman, Yvonne James, and more!

The 2009 Chauvin Folk Art Festival was supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the Houma Regional Arts Council; a Community Partnership grant from the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation; the Kohler Foundation, and the Barataria Terrebonne National Estuary Program.

Folk Art Festival 2007

On April 15, 2007, the Friends of the Chauvin Sculpture Garden hosted the second Chauvin Folk Art Festival and Blessing of the Fleet Celebration Festival goers indulged in savory food, danced to the varied sounds of the bands, shopped the booths of talented artists and enjoyed the historical Blessing. The festival featured live entertainment by Treater, Jake Smith, Steve Junot, and dancing by Mary-in-Nets and Mehlika's Mirage. Featured artists included Dennis Sipiorski, John Perilloux, Deb Lillie, Jeff Brown, Billy Belanger, Janey Luster, Chuck Broussard, Doris Dupre, Ivy Billiot, Mark Harper, Russell Martin, Robin Hartman, and Yvonne James.

The 2007 Festival was sponsored by Nicholls Division of Art and the Friends of the Chauvin Sculpture Garden, and funded by the Houma Regional Arts Council, Cannatas Family Market, Houma Reprographics & Maps, Inc, and United Supply.

The magnificent and endangered backdrop of South Louisiana Barrier Island estuaries are captured in this photography exhibition by faculty and students. LUMCON exhibition opens at the Folk Art Center with crawfish boil and live musical performance by Clayton West & Friends. Exhibition coincided with NSU Jubilee Festival events throughout South Louisiana.
